Q: where did you get your start? how did you start designing? I mean, literally did you just start by buying some fabrics and cutting designs? Where did you first sell to? How did you get the word out there about your stuff? Did you make multiple of different items? I'm really interested in getting my start in clothing designing. Apologies for all the questions but this is something I've always wanted to do and I'd love to hear your story of your beginning with your line! Xo

My grandma taught me how to sew at 7 years old. I didn’t go to school. I started by re-working vintage clothes and then started making my own patterns and making clothes from scratch. That was about 8 years ago. 3 years ago I moved to LA and lived in my aunt’s garage and cut and sewed my designs from the moment I woke up until the moment I passed out, for months. I just kept posting everything on instagram. At that point I had like, zero following and I was selling like 1 dress a month but I just kept posting and making a little demand for myself. Eva Marcille ended up wearing one of my dresses to the BET Awards and it has just grown from that point on. I don’t make mass quantities of anything. But everything works different for everybody, you gotta do what works for you or it just won’t work. Gotta follow the gut! xx L
